Not useless -- but many faults
The index is nearly useless.. Huge amounts of space and time are wasted on the obvious, yet the book is short on explanations of the non-obvious. You're given step by step exercises which are somewhat useful as a way of learning. My main objection to this book is the writing style which is overly wordy, and unnecessarily repetitive throughout. And too, there is important discussion and information omitted throughout. As an example of the type of important information and discussion omitted, consider that AutoCad routinely gives you at least two ways of entering points in a drawing; yet there is no discussion anywhere of why and when you would choose one method over the other. The choice usually isn't arbitrary, and generally should be made according to your display size relative to the drawing's dimensions and the precision you require; yet you won't find any useful discussion of this. This is just one example of hundreds of little bits of helpful advice and useful information missing from this AutoCad guide. I have a much older guide written by James Kirkpatrick that is better written and organized, but sadly it is badly out of date now, and there doesn't seem to be an up to date edition of Kirkpatrick's book available on Amazon. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this present guide by Dogra and Willis. There has got to be something much better.
