Feels solid but has issues once you start to use.
I like the feel and construction and was really pleased when it first arrived but having used it maybe a dozen times now I've noticed some unsatisfactory things. The black coating comes off and not even with that hard a cleaning and once it has then it rusts and you have to oil it between uses. The pan also warps at higher temperatures.Overall I feel disappointed. I'll try put a seal on it like I do with my cast iron.

Good, but too shallow for a tray bake
It's a solid tray. It's welded at the corners, and folded over at the top.It is, of course, just steel - it does need to get a patina from oil, either through use or by deliberate action. And this patina is ruined by a dish-washer, so it's a hand-wash only item.My item also had one sharp point remaining on the interior from the welding, obviously a one-off, but that prevented five stars. It's also very nearly exactly the right thing for a 12"x9" tray bake and fits my narrow 2nd oven. Except at 3cm it's too shallow. It really needs to be 4 or 5cm deep to work properly for tray bakes. Which is a shame, as otherwise I like it a lot.[UPDATE] Double-checking the size, I find that it is in fact slightly smaller than I had through. At the rim top exterior it is 29.8cm/11 3/4" by 22.7cm/9". The interior bottom of the tray is only 11" by 8 1/8". A bit smaller than the 12"x9" I was hoping for. Reduced to 3*

This tray is so useful I'm gong to buy another one
I've always used PTFE coated non-stick trays and pans in the oven before trying this. After noticing the PTFE peeling off yet another tray I decided I would try a plain carbon steel tray and ordered this a couple of weeks ago. It arrived a couple of days after ordering it. Before first use I washed it and coated it with oil and stuck it in the oven a few times to achieve a non-stick patina. In the first week I used it in the oven for roast potatoes about 3 times, for tomatoe, onlion and mushrooms breakfast twice, for meringues and for cookies, for frozen hash browns and for oven chips and nothing even thinks about sticking to it. This tray is so useful I'm gong to buy another one.

Returning item unfortunately
I have found it difficult to find a tray of this size. However, this is the only thing that’s right about it. It started rusting after the first wash and the surface is coming off despite handing washing with a suitable sponge.

Almost perfect!!
Near perfect! Plain carbon steel without any non stick coating to flake off and contaminate the food.Ignore the negative reviews about the item rusting. These people are clearly too thick to read the items description and the included instructions....it needs to be cared for as it's plain carbon steel, treated the same as you'd treat an authentic wok/pealla dish or cast iron cookware. If you do this correctly (which doesn't take much effort), it WILL last a lifetime and build its own non stick coating as the platina develops, getting better every time it's used.My only criticism is the material could be slightly thicker to resist deforming in a hot oven. If a 2 or 3mm thick version was available that could be perfect!!Love this product....will be buying a few more in the future!
