Q: Does this work with Linux? (Obviously the Epson software won't but will the scanner?)

Before you buy, get someone who knows for sure, but if your version of Linux supports USB and you can install generic drivers, I imagine so. However, I don't know if the special functions will work, such as using the sheet fed scanning.

Q: does this scan negative photo?

Sorry I Can not tell you as I have not used this enough because I Hate the Software that it comes with.To me they cobbled together Epson and Paperport. There is a manual online that might tell you.

Yes, this one works with 10.9, according to the "Drivers and downloads" link here:http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=104830&BVIt says that the current "Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility" is compatible with Mac OS X versions 10.5.8 through 10.9
