Q: Hi, do these tongs have a "spring" in them, so while using them they don't "slam" shut. Does that make since? (Not the locking clip part when storing)

Q: Is the spring also made of stainless steel? Because I've had tongs where the spring and surrounding parts inside started to rust.

I don't think so, as stainless steel, isn't spring steel. I will say these are great! they have a very clever locking mechanism that has actually made them my favorite I've ever had of this type of cooking utensil. Good luck.
