What a delight

I read this pretty much straight through and kept sending my girls parts I knew they would love. The recipes are all easy to make with for the most part items I already have . I love how they clarified why each recipe worked for the Shire and when and how it would be eaten. The leftovers and the uses for them sounded easily as delicious as the original dishes. I need to make some hand pies because my bestie wants some second breakfast. You definitely need to check this out . You will find yourself wanting to get into the kitchen And maybe watch one of the hobbit movies while you enjoy the delicious food you made.

Delicious, Different and a Delight.

What a delight! We've made 15 of the recipes so far and have absolutely loved them. I especially like the suggestions for using the left overs - very economical and sensible. I'm an old fashioned cook (I use recipes that date back four generations in my family) and love the wholesome, country style goodness of these recipes. As someone else mentioned, I did notice a type-o and wish that the editing had been more careful. In the "Strawberries and Cream Bread" the ingredients call for 1/2 cup heavy cream, but the text mentions 1 cup heavy cream. I believe the 1/2 cup measurement is correct. At least that's what I used this morning and the bread turned out moist, light and delicious. Some of the ingredients are a bit unusual (at least these days), but my local chain grocery store has had everything. The meat department just had to order the rabbit and oxtail for me, but everything else has been in stock. One doesn't have to be a Hobbit fan to appreciate these recipes. This is down-home country cooking at its best.

Fun cookbook with a few errors

This is a really fun themed cookbook! The recipes draw from the British Isles, so if you cook a lot of British food, you may find that you're familiar with many recipes and techniques. This is the kind of food my husband loves, and is what I would describe as hearty comfort food that warms you up on cool fall nights and frosty winter days. There is also great commentary with each recipe that will make you smile. One of the strengths of this cookbook is that it has vegan and vegetarian variants for many recipes, although it's often something along the lines of "swap vegetarian protein crumbles for the groud beef," which isn't exactly hard to figure out on your own. However, there are good suggestions for what types of vegetarian fats work best in a recipe and some other substitutions that an omnivore might not be familiar with if they don't often cook for vegetarian friends.A big downside to the book is that there are various errors in the recipe. As this is now the second edition, I imagine a lot of the errors mention in older reviews have been corrected, but there are still a few! I've spotted a few errors converting imperial measurements to metric. The shortcrust recipe immediately comes to mind, where it calls for 1/2 cup or 250 grams butter. 250 grams of butter is more like 1 1/4 cups butter, so if you were following the metric measurements, you'd have some really funky pie crust. When in doubt, I would suggest following the imperial measurements since the author is American and probably wrote them in imperial originally.Overall, I'm pleased with the book and would recommend it to Middle Earth fans. Just watch out for measurements that seem off.

Big hit with the dnd group

Love this cookbook. Not only does it have authentic old English recipes but little historical/cultural lessons that aren't blown out of proportion like you see on every recipe online

An unexpected cookbook

This is a great cookbook for Tolkien fans - an interesting collection of recipes and drawings. Paperback, hard spine. The recipes seem to be doable and creative. I purchased for my niece who is a huge hobbit fan - I think she's gonna love it.

A sweet gentle book to lure one into fantasy eating.

Please see above. Only wish it was in affordable hard-back rather than this somewhat small paperback.

Awesome Cookbook

Came on time and in perfect condition. Has perfect quality and is very sturdy. It has considerations for dietary restrictions and substitutions so everyone can try it. I can't wait to try cooking these recipes and I recommend it to all Lord of the Rings fans who love to cook.

Cups to grams

It's a really fun book, with lots of good recipes. They however messed up the grams. This seems to be the only recipe, but it is off by quite a lot

Grandioso libro
