Getting zero made easy
Very affordable way to make getting zero easier. It works great. It has good quality, but I would appreciate a metal bottom so it would eliminate any distortion out of the question. The plastic is slightly wavy so getting an exact thickness of the sensor could be very slightly off. Probably not enough to make a difference, but still. I didn't realize my CNC came with one, but now I have two.

Very nice Z-axis touch probe for select Genmitsu CNC machines
The media could not be loaded. As soon as I saw the product ad for this Genmitsu CNC Router Z-Axis touch probe, I recognized what it was immediately since I own one of the machines that this item is compatible with: the 4040-PRO. Allthough I already have one of these probes and it is in working order, I ordered this one because I really like how it works, and if I should accidentally break my current one I would like to have a replacement at the ready. What I like about it mostly is that it has two little LED indicator lights on the top of the probe body: a blue one that lets you know that the probe is connected to the CNC's controller, and a second red one that signals when the cutting tool makes contact with the metal probe surface. I haven't travelled far and wide, but in my experience I've not seen another probe with these indicator lights, and I think that they are a nice feature. Plus it's pretty inexpensive so why not use this particular model?Of course, most of the work is done by the controller software, which when it receives the signal that the bit has made contact with the probe automatically subtracts the height of the probe from the measured height to calculate the actual top of the stock to be cut. It works really well, and is a big step up (in terms of ease of use and accuracy) from using a piece of paper under the bit and lowering the z-axis manually until the paper cannot be moved any longer.

Works well on a 3018 CNC Mill
I tested this tool setting probe on a 3018 CNC Mill and it performed well and as it should with no issues. It does have two indicator lights. One to let you know it is plugged in (ready) and another to signal when the tool touches off. This is a pretty straight forward device and for the most part plug n play. I recommend this tool setting probe if you have a desktop mill.
