Superpower in Peril: A Battle Plan to Renew America

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PUBLIC POLICY BOOK I HAVE EVER READ
At 240 pages, the type is decent size. The sentences are almost always very clear. I read it comfortably in one day.HERE ARE THE DETAILS--David McCormick is best known to the public for losing the Republican Race for the Pennsylvania U.S Senate seat to Dr. Oz. In Superpower In Peril McCormick reports that Donald Trump offered to endorse him if McCormick were willing to publicly declare that the 2022 Presidential election was “stolen”. McCormick declined. Trump endorsed Oz. BUT this is not why persons interested in public affairs should read this book. The main reason is that Superpower In Peril, identifies critical areas in high tech industry and science, where the rate of our improvement in abilities are falling behind the rate for several other countries. Most rapidly and dangerously WE ARE FALLING BEHIND CHINA IN OUR PROGRESS TOWARD ADVANCING CRITICAL TECHNOLOGY FOR BOTH INDUSTRIAL AND MILITARY PURPOSES. Current trends suggest, our relative position will get worse--unless we dramatically step up our game,Unlike similar books which identify problems, McCormick also proposes specific plans.High on McCormick’s list is that a combination of government and private industry should offer early stage support to multiple companies which have skills in priority sectors. Helping multiple companies with start up amounts, he feels, would help increase competition. Better that, than trying too hard to pick "winners and losers".Does the author provide too much information about his personal experiences and achievements?I don’t think so. Almost all the modest number of paragraphs where he discusses himself refer to the experiences and events which led him to propose the plans that he hopes will help preserve our future.McCormick has a wide range of experience in fields that are relevant to his books focus-- West Point; ArmyOfficer in the First Gulf War; President of two publicly traded software companies; CEO of Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s largest investment management firms, U.S. Treasury under-secretary for international affairs; senior positions on the National Security Council and at the Department of Commerce.

PHENOMENAL READ
I came across Mr. McCormick in a podcast with Jocko Willink, where they discussed lessons learned and read a few excerpts from Superpower in Peril. I immediately bought the back after listening to this podcast and halfway through the book - i’m blown away. David reminds America of some of the darkest times in our history, and how we advanced through these challenges. He relates these events so perfectly to some of the challenges we’re having today. Highly highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the sovereignty of our Nation and what we must do moving forward. Thank you Mr. McCormick for your service and hope to see you on the polls soon!

Decent read
A pity he lost the senate race due to interference from a certain well-known personality. McCormick would have been an excellent senator. I agree with some critics that parts of the book are repetitive. Nevertheless, he does a great job describing critical issues facing us and some practical solutions. The problem is that practical solutions will not be implemented if we continue to send the crowd to DC and our statehouses that we have been sending. In that sense, he does not offer any solutions to our biggest underlying problem: Our culture and society are quite sick. At the end of the day, we are a "representative" democracy, and our representatives are a reflection of the society producing them. One last comment: He has interwoven many personal stories, to the point that it had the feel of the mandatory book that all aspiring presidential candidates are supposed to write. I wish him luck and hope he hangs around -- he has much to offer.

Important read, simple, outlines an interesting optimism to America
While I agree with some of the reviews that it can get repetitive at times, it is still one of the most simple to understand and clearly written examples of American optimism I’ve seen lately. Even though I don’t absolutely agree with everything here, it was still clearly laid out and well explained. It was refreshing nonetheless to see someone care deeply about the future of this country.

A decent book, but…
Could have been a great book, but it’s written at a 5th graders reading level. Disappointed in that for sure. Skims over some important issues. The America is great 1000 times gets annoying. Many of his ideas truly have merit. His heart is in the right place building optimism and a better America. Overall, the book lacks gravitas, but still worth the read.
