I actually love this set. The felt top with rubbery bottom lays flat and grips the pieces well. It folds up for compact storage in the pieces bag, and doesn't take up as much space as roll up only mats. The 17" size is perfect. Smaller than competition size but bigger than your average board for easy viewing. This is the best deal for a portable chess set I could find.

This is a great portable chess set, easy to fit into a backpack or suitcase or just take on the go with the travel bag it comes with.-The board itself is a felt-like material on the board side with a leather-like alternative on the back side -- making it very easy to fold or roll to take with you. It comes folded in 3rds lengthwise and then 3rds again horizontally, and it fits in the bag just fine.-When unfolded, the board is nice and flat -- no issues there -- and is of an excellent size (not tiny at all, this is a full-sized board). The green and white colors are very easy on the eyes for long games.-I particularly like that the thin felt material on the board side combined with the true felt on the bottom of the chess pieces means that there is some grip when pieces are placed, and the pieces stay securely and don't slide around. Pieces have to be picked up to be moved -- not just slid into place.-The pieces are nice sized and easy to grip. The one improvement I wish it had was a little more weight to the pieces. They are weighted slightly, but not quite as much as preferred by the competitive players in my family. It does also come with checker pieces, but my family uses it almost totally for chess.I think this set brings a lot more to the table than I thought it would and I would recommend it even for serious and competitive chess players who need a set for on the go or that can be compactly stored.

There are lots of things I like about this chess mat. It's a 20" mat, which is perfect for 'on the go'. It has just enough weight that it lays flat, and the material on the back provides some anti-slip. The pieces are well sized for the size of the mat, and the extra queens are helpful. It all fits in the included bag. Very happy with this, though it doesn't seem to have improved my skills.

This makes for a great travel board and I have found myself using it all around campus. Whenever I’m meeting a friend or simply have some down time it takes little effort to Bull this out of my backpack and start picking up a game. The board is pretty thin but it works as a great flat mat. I even like it’s labeled all the squares. The prices themselves are the highlight since they feel solid and hefty in your hands. This keeps them from flying away if you’re playing outside which is a huge plus. It also comes with checkers and although I have not played a game of checkers yet the pieces feel just as nice as the chess prices. If you or someone you know is a chess lover I think this makes an amazing piece to add to the collection. A great price for a great travel chess game!

This board game set is a good value for its extreme portability. The chessboard has a mouse pad style nonslip mat on the bottom, allowing it to stay put securely on any table surface or flooring where you might decide to use it. The chessmen and checkers are well made and easy to tell apart, and quite durable. I'm really pleased with it, and it's easy to throw into an overnight bag for a trip.

Love that it's both chess and checkers, includes a storage bag for portability, and the board is foldable, further making it more portable. The pieces are well made and and feel solid. Definitely recommend it!

I am teaching my son to play chess. When we travel we use this to play in the airport for long layovers and things like that. It good for teaching him to use his brain and is great for long layovers. We usually chew up about an hour using this. makes the travel day go by soooo much quicker.
