Q: Is this the same the regular dd1? If not what the special part of this ?

It is not a distortion detector. It calculates the watts the amplifier is putting out by running the positive speaker lead through the center and connecting the red and black leads to the positive and negative battery connection at the amplifier. It also has a few other functions. Steve Meade has some videos on Youtube about it.

The red and black leads are positioned at the point where the speaker leads come out of the amplifier. red on positive lead and black on negative lead measuring voltage. The positive lead then runs through the circle in the meter to measure current running through the wire. It needs these two measurements to calculate wattage. So you could also measure from an external passive crossover going to a tweeter or midrange. You just have to have access to the positive and negative speaker lead.

Yes. There is a lot of good videos on Youtube on the subject. Steve Meade himself does some testing this meter.

Q: So to set the gains i would need the dd1 and not this??
