TL;DR: It's a super mild seafood flavor. Recommended for beginners like me who don't want the full jar.
For those who are shy about squid ink, I'll give you a beginner's perspective. I've run all of three experiments with the ink and this is what I found:1st experiment: Instant ramen noodles, no soup packets, just noodles, water, and ink. Boiling the ink in water makes a strong seafood smell, almost like crab but not quite? It lasts for all of 30 seconds before the smell escapes into the air and you're left with inky black water with just a touch of seafood flavor. For me, this is a good thing! Resulting soup was very bland but inky black.2nd experiment: Nong Shim instant spicy noodles, plus the ink. Pretty much perfect. The spicy noodle soup worked great with just that little hint of seafood flavor, and the resulting dark black with just a hint of red was really pleasing to the eye.3rd experiment: Nong Shim instant spicy noodles the extra soup packet I had left over from the first experiment. Could still taste the faint squid ink flavor even with double the red spicy packet.I've been told the flavor's stronger when it's used to make a sauce as opposed to a soup, but I like it for the little bit of flavor and the evil look it brings to soup dishes, so I'm happy.

Good for beginners
Been wanting to dip my toes into the homemade squid ink pasta water for a while, and decided to go with these packets instead of the jar in case it didn’t go well. Thankfully it did, and I will presently be purchasing the jar to keep on hand for the next time I get the itch.Only gripe is the packets are quite small and a little fiddly, so it’s kind of a pain to get the ink (which is a gelatinous paste) out. Not that big of a deal, though, just worth mentioning.Flavor was top notch and not nearly as scary as you might think, given the unusual smell. If you’re considering buying some ink to get cooking, go for it!

Flavor
Flavor was not what I expected. It was not unpleasant but could have been better.

Great for seeing if you like squid ink
This product came with enough for one batch of pasta (a tablespoon and then two extra packets). Had a great flavor in the pasta and was just enough for me to experiment with without committing to an entire jar. Would recommend if you’re interested in creating dishes with squid ink.

These are perfect. I use one sachet for every two portions ...
Bought these as an experiment, started making my own pasta a few months ago and wanted to make a squid ink pasta. These are perfect. I use one sachet for every two portions made (i.e. two eggs and corresponding amounts of 00 and semolina flours). Gives the pasta a nice look and slightly briny taste that isn't at all "fishy". Will buy this again.

Turns out I don't like squid ink, but this was a great chance to try it
I loved that this was a reasonable price for just a few sachets - perfect if you've never tried squid ink but want to give it a go in pasta or paella.Turns out I'm not a fan of the taste, but there's enough here to make a couple batches of pasta or paella so it's a perfect way to try it out without wasting your money on buying a big expensive jar of it.

Will buy again
Used this for squid ink pasta. Perproportion sizes nice but had to use 5 of the 8 packets to make my recipe so I wish the quantity per pack was more so I didn't feel like I was losing so much in the package. pasta came out smooth with NO gritty texture, clumping or uneven distribution of color. this is my first time tasting squid ink pasta but it seem to have relatively mild flavor.
