HP ScanJet Pro 4500 fn1 Network Scanner (L2749A)

I bought this scanner in Aug 2020. I used it lightly (190 scans) until 8 Feb 2022 and it started creating a black bar on all scans like MANY other people have had happen. It turns out that the warranty expired on Nov 2020 when I put the serial number into the HP support web site. WTF? This is BS! Next, I talk with an HP representative on the phone and they do not repair out of warranty scanners. I tried finding a service agency approved by HP and the closest was in Pennsylvania and I live in NC. I am on my own... and off to the dumpster for this POS. Never will I buy any HP device again.

I am in IT support and I encourage various clients to purchase this scanner. In total about 4 scanners were purchased. About a year after purchase they ALL had thick black vertical lines on one side of the scanned document. I reached out to HP and they replaced one of the scanners and with a few months the new scanner had the same problem. Nice scanner but do not waist your money.

Just like all of the other reviews, I'm having an issue with the black bar on scans. It's tax time and I'm extremely upset the scanner no longer produces clear scans. Absolute garbage! Do not buy, stay away! I used to trust HP for all of my printer and scanner needs. It's absolutely time for me to trust a new company.

Nice machine, well built. Software package good. Scans all documents well. Drawback and a big drawback considering the price of the machine is the lousy WIFI. Constantly drops the connection if actually connects. I can turn on the machine and try to scan wirelessly and get an error message Not Connected to Computer, I have to play around with the Settings to get my computer to recognize the scanner. Time consuming, very frustrating given my HP Inkjet 8600 immediately connects to the router and never drops the connection. Cost of the Inkjet about 125 bucks. the Scanjet 4500 fn1 works great with the USB connection. I should have purchased the cheaper version in the first place. I bought it direct from HP. I have not called support, I do not want to be on the phone waiting and having someone try to fix the WIFI problem. I would have given 4 star if not for this problem.

I have bought HP scanners and printers for many years, and they are usually trouble free and easy to use, and decent workhorses. For the price, they're easily replaced for work and home. BUT, the scanners are in a word, crap. So bad I thought something was wrong until I spent money on a tech guy who told me never count on HP for scan. To sum it up, if you pop for the expensive Adobe scan to photo and pdf, you have a workaround and can use the multipurpose HP for everything else.

This scanner lasted about 1 1/2 years with very light use. Now it has a perpetual paper jam error message and no sign of any paper jams so the scanner is unusable. It also takes a very long time for the scanner to find computers on the network to scan to and also has an eco mode that you can not turn off. Will never buy another HP Scanjet.
